SIGHTSEEING ON VALENTIA ISLAND

Valentia Island is one of the most beautiful locations on the west coast of Ireland and Oaklodge is situated on an elevated site in the centre of the island with superb sea and mountain views. Whether you walk, cycle or drive around Valentia you will encounter a whole host of attractions and some of the most amazing scenery to be found anywhere in Ireland. Once you exit the gate from Oaklodge and turn to your right you have the choice of heading towards the Slate Quarry and Grotto with the wonderful view over Valentia Harbour and the Lighthouse or alternatively you can take the lower road to the Lighthouse at Cromwell Point or go to view the Tetrapod tracks near the radio station. The beautiful Glanleam House and gardens are just down the road on the way to the picturesque village of Knightstown. There are some wonderful views from the Islands top road and one of the best views anywhere in the world is from the top of Geoukan mountain which can be accessed by car or on foot. Further back along the top road there are some wonderful views of the Skellig Rocks and if you want to venture as far as the lookout tower on Bray Head you are now on one of the most westerly points in Ireland with some fantastic cliff and Atlantic Ocean views. No matter where you are on Valentia you are surrounded by wonderful scenery and very many interesting attractions.
